Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common concerns so you can make informed decisions with peace of mind.

How much does a consultation cost?

The initial evaluation and consultation fee is $1,500 MXN.

Why do herniated discs form?

Natural disc degeneration with age, repetitive axial loading, poor posture, excess weight, and genetic predisposition.

Do you see patients who don’t speak Spanish?

Yes. Consultations, diagnoses, treatment plans, and all follow-up care are conducted fully in English. You will never need a translator.

How long after surgery can I resume normal activities?

Most minimally invasive procedures allow patients to return to light daily activities within 7-14 days. Dr. Grimaldo provides a personalized recovery plan based on your specific procedure and condition.

Can I get a preliminary assessment before my first appointment?

Yes. Send us your MRI or imaging studies via WhatsApp and we can provide an initial orientation before scheduling an in-person consultation.

Do you work with international health insurance?

We provide complete medical documentation in English for insurance reimbursement claims. Contact us to discuss your specific coverage.

Where exactly is the clinic located?

Hospital Puerta de Hierro Andares, Torre Elite, 17th Floor, Suite 1703 — one of Guadalajara’s premier private hospital complexes, in the Andares district. Ample parking available.

What happens if I don’t treat my herniated disc?

If left untreated, pain and symptoms can worsen, potentially leading to permanent nerve damage, muscle weakness, and a significant impact on your quality of life.

How do I know if this pain is a herniated disc?

Common symptoms include low back or neck pain, pain radiating to the arms or legs, numbness, tingling, and muscle weakness.

If you identify with these symptoms, please schedule an evaluation.

Is surgery always necessary?

It depends on several factors. If symptoms are mild, most cases are managed with physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medication, and pain relievers.

However, if the discomfort is moderate to severe or doesn’t respond to conservative treatment, we perform a minor 1-hour surgery to remove the hernia and relieve symptoms.

How do I know if it’s not sciatica or low back pain?

Sciatica causes pain that radiates from the lower back down to the leg, while low back pain (lumbago) is concentrated strictly in the lower back area.

An accurate diagnosis requires a professional evaluation.
